As a young midfielder picked up by Ashcroft, Smith played a sizeable role towards the end of the 22/23 season, playing 6 games and starting 4 of them. His debut came off the bench in Town's 3-1 home defeat to Isle of Man but went on the start the next game as Longridge drew 1-1 away to Bury AFC. He signed a permanent contract ahead of the 23/24 season.

His first goal for the club came in a 3-1 away defeat to Lower Breck, however this strike won him the club's November 2023 goal of the month award.

Following a fantastic first full season at the club, Luke finished the 23/24 season on 4 goals and 6 assists.
