Longridge Town Football Club are delighted to announce that midfielder Tom Ince will take up the role of First Team Captain for the coming season.

Supported by keeper Lee Dovey, who will be vice-captain, Tom will be the first major change in the role since Manager Lee Ashcroft joined the Club five years ago.

“Pretty much as soon as I joined the Club I brought in George Melling to be my leader on the field,” said Ashey. “He has done a magnificent job, leading us to two Championships, and two promotions, but George picked up a bout of pleurisy midway through the season and although he’ll still be around the place, I thought it was time to appoint a new skipper.

“Tom and Lee are both senior players, ever-present in Lees case, who everybody looks up to and respects. They have both been with us for a few years now, and they will lead by example on and off the pitch I’m sure.”

Speaking for the first time in his new role as skipper, Tom explained how much he was looking forward to the season ahead: “The Manager has changed a few things around, there are some new faces to freshen things up, and the main reason for playing is that I enjoy it here.

“Last season we played some fantastic football, and when Ashey asked me to stay on for another season it was a no brainer. To then be given the responsibility of Captain was the icing on the cake really, and I’m looking forward to getting going.”

Town head back to the MRG on Thursday evening, welcoming Northern Premier Division side Bamber Bridge in a 7.30pm kick-off.

Admission for the game is £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and Under 16s go free.
