New to the North West Counties!

Connor Philipson16 May - 07:00

Four new sides will join the Premier Division next season as the league stays at 24 sides

Just as last year, we are releasing this guide to every new side who will be joining us for the new season with some being playing us for the first time ever.

With Bury, Lower Breck, Colne and Squires Gate departing the division, their places will now be taken by the following.

City of Liverpool

Last season's division: Northern Premier League Division West
Finished: 22nd
Points: 15
GS: 37
GA: 118

Founded in 2015, the Purps seemed to be heading in a upward trajectory after winning the NWCFL Premier Division in 2019.

They'd just finished 5th and only bowed out of the play-off in the final, in a 2-0 defeat to Prescot Cables.

However, just the season after and they finished rock bottom on the NPL West and find themselves back in the North West Counties.

Town have never faced COL before so it will be a very welcomed brand new side.

That being said, it won't be a new ground, since they currently groundshare with Widnes, a 12,500 capacity stadium that Longridge have a great record at.

Wythenshawe

Last season's division: Northern Premier League Division West
Finished: 20th
Points: 38
GS: 45
GA: 75

The Ammies were crowned champions of the NWCFL Premier Division two years ago, but have returned straight away.

Their local rivals, Wythenshawe Town also finished in the bottom four, but have been reprived relegation and will remain in the Northern Prem West.

However Wythenshawe themselves were a formidable side in that 23/24 season, boasting an 'aggregate' score of 11-1 over Longridge and finishing on 95 points and 111 goals.

Striker Darrhyl Mason is seemingly remaining at the club, making him one to watch out for following his 12 goals last season and his combined four goals against Town in 23/24.

Atherton Laburnum Rovers

Last season's division: North West Counties First Division North
Finished: 1st
Points: 78
GS: 77
GA: 31

Known simply as 'Atherton LR', the Panthers were crowned champions of the First Division in April and will play in the Premier Division for the first time since 2012.

Atherton won the treble last season, including the First Division, First Division champions cup and the Edward Case Cup.

Striker Thomas Romano bagged 19 goals as he finished at the club's top scorer, with Harvey Sample (17) not far behind him.

Goalkeeper Joseph Bickerstaffe and a very stubborn defence also saw just 31 goals conceded on top of all that.

Euxton Villa

Last season's division: North West Counties First Division North
Finished: 5th (play-off winners)
Points: 65
GS: 71
GA: 46

Now for a great story.

Chorley based side Euxton Villa played in the West Lancs league from 2002 until 2022 before winning promotion via the play-offs to the NWC First Division.

They then had three straight play-off campaigns as they continued their rise up the leagues.

They might have lost at their first two attempts, but it laid the foundations perfectly for a successful 24/25 campaign which saw them defeat Droylsden 2-0 in the play-off final.

Ex Garstang attacker Joel Darley joined up with Dan Singleton to lead Villa's goalscoring charts with 15, whilst ex Longridge left back Finley Kent was their most ever present player player over the season.

Former Preston North End goalkeeper Oliver Lombard also helped out majorly, with 13 clean sheets in 36 games.

Villa will serve as our closest game in the division next season, as it's just under a 25 minute drive from Longridge.
