Match report: Longridge 5-0 City of Liverpool

Connor Philipson7 Mar - 18:15

Five Star Town demolish Purps

Longridge Town recorded a comfortable win over struggling City of Liverpool.

First half goals from Paul Turner, Aaron and Leighton Hewitt saw the Ridge in a strong position before the interval.

Lucas Wane added a fourth before Will Procter put the cherry on top in the dying moments.

This gave Town their second win in a row.

There was only one change to the side that overcame Cheadle on Tuesday, as Will Procter came in for the injured Harry Winstanley.

Town were without both Jack Anderton and Luke Smith, who missed out through suspension.

The visitors had an energetic start, forcing Miller Megson to make a great challenge to prevent Lloyd Shobo racing in on goal.

From that point on, the Ridge took control.

Procter saw a fierce close range volley well held by COL 'keeper Hayden Davis.

Turner then met a perfectly weight ball from L.Hewitt but could only roll into the arms of the goalkeeper.

Kai Crowe then made one of his only saves of the game, holding a nicely placed effort from Liam Gould.

Town then opened the scoring, as a beautiful cross from A.Hewitt was poked into the bottom corner by Turner.

Unfortunately, after over stretching for the cross, Turner then hobbled off to be replaced by Liam Atkinson, who was making his return from injury.

Longridge then grabbed their second, as A.Hewitt raced onto a ball in behind and smashed it past Davis.

In protest of an decision, COL manager Richard Brodie was shown his second yellow card.

The Hewitt brothers almost combined to make it three, as an Aaron ball was just too far infront of Leighton with the latter sliding in.

However, they then got it right, as A.Hewitt raced down the left before pulling it back to his brother, L.Hewitt who made no mistake.

At half time, ticket no.11412 won our half time pound for the ground jackpot of £72.

A massive thank you to everyone who entered, your support is greatly appreciated.

Town came out well in the second 45.

Wane led a counter attack before laying off Atkinson who fired wide.

Wane was then massively involved again.

A.Hewitt fed it into L.Hewitt who danced past his man before his cross deflected into the path of Wane.

The attacker took a touch before belting it through a crowd of bodies and into the Purps net.

L.Hewitt was the only Town booking of the day, after being cautioned following an altercation with COL's Bevan Burey.

Just after that, Town made their final changes.

Wane and a hobbling Mitch Marshall was replaced by Yuvi Dewan and the returning Carson Greaves.

COL'S Burey was then booked for a very late challenge on Greaves.

Procter then made it five, rifling it into the bottom corner after racing in on goal.

A massive thank you for your incredible support today.

Speaking after the game, assistant manager Charlie Russell was happy with the return to form:

"Yeah, really pleasing.

"I asked the question before the game, can we find the levels that we did on Tuesday?

"They did, there was some really good bits of play out there.

"That's two on the bounce, we're not gonna get carried away, I think we've let ourselves at times this season in games we should've won.

"But I feel like we're turning a corner in terms of picking up three points when we need to pick up three points."
