Match report: Longridge 2-2 Ramsbottom

Connor Philipson27 Dec 2025 - 19:00

Super Jack Snatches a Point

The Ridge stole a draw against high-flying Ramsbottom United to make it five games unbeaten.

Town led through Liam Atkinson, but goals from Rammy's Jacob Holland-Wilkinson and Luke Sephton had turned the game on it's head.

However thankfully for Longridge, Atkinson turned provider in the dying stages, setting up Jack Anderton who stole a point late on.

There was just one change to the XI who ran out 4-0 victors over Pilkington, with Ben Fletcher coming in for the injured Leighton Hewitt.

For the final time in 2025, Town got the game underway.

They started very brightly too, with an Oscar Wright digging out a half chance for Atkinson whose goalbound effort was blocked.

However as we know, you can't keep him quiet for long.

Connor High sent Atkinson on his way, and the striker drove into the area from the right and slotted it past Ramsbottom 'keeper Bradley Rose to break the deadlock after 12 minutes.

Josh Ashe then danced past two Ramsbottom defenders moments later and played it out to Ryan McLean.

However the fullback's dipping cross was over and out.

Anderton then saw his close range header held by Rose.

For all the early Town pressure, Ramsbottom then came close to levelling from nothing.

A cross from the right was headed onto the crossbar by Luke Sephton.

Town goalkeeper Charlie Brier then had to make it first save, denying Jacob Holland-Wilkinson with his legs.

The ball broke into midfield where Atkinson would break forward, only to be rugby tackled by Oscar Radcliffe who would be booked.

It appears to be the only way to stop him in fairness.

Following half time, we then got back underway for the second 45.

Whatever the visitors had done at half time was working.

Just under ten minutes in, and a cracking Holland-Wilkinson strike from 25 yards found the bottom right corner.

The game was now all Ramsbottom, with Brier needing to pull off a fantastic save to deny a close range effort from Harvey Hayhurst.

Town responded with their first change, with debutant Danylo Dmytriiev replacing Ben Fletcher.

It seemed to have some effect, with town having a small period of chances.

Almost replicating his goal from last week, McLean almost caught Rose off his line from the half-way line, but the 'keeper got back quick to push it round the post.

A glancing header from Wright was then saved then eventually gathered by the Rammy goalkeeper.

However it would be the visitors to score next, with Sephton heading in off the Town post to give his side the lead.

Once again Town went their bench, replacing Wright with Matt Van Wyk.

Town huffed and puffed to carve out some late chances.

An Atkinson pulback was blazed over the bar by Luke Smith before the latter would send a header wide soon after.

The hard work would pay off when Dmytriiev got on the end of a switch ball and went infield to Atkinson.

Liam came inside and played a lovely reverse pass to Anderton who slid it under Rose and into the back of the net.

Town celebrated but they soon gathered the ball and went again.

A battling five minutes of stoppage time came to a close as the points were shared.

We end the year five games unbeaten and in 11th place.

A huge thank you for your support today and over the course of 2025.

It has not gone unnoticed by any of us, we couldn't do it without you, especially with the atmosphere today which was fantastic.

To constantly hear you pushing the lads on for the equaliser towards the end was magnificent.

The Ridge army can take us places, and so can this never say die attitude from the players.

Thank you, from all of us.
