PT wins it late as Town finish on a high

Town finished the season with a win over local side Squires Gate whilst moving up to 19th place in the Premier Division.

There were two changes to the side ahead of the season ending match as Sebastian Bailey came in for his first start whilst Malick Diakite Tanou came back into the starting XI.

The visitors started the better as Hughes found himself in behind after roughly 50 seconds but could only fire over the bar.

Gate also won a free kick from 20 yards out but Hughes once again found the field behind the stand.

Kitchen was then called into action for the first time as he tipped a close range header onto the post following a long throw.

Gate then threatened again soon after as Ing nodded just over from close range on 20 minutes.

The ex Town forward was close again as he flicked a Hughes cross just wide via a deflection, with Longridge managing to clear their lines from the resulting corner.

Just after the half hour mark, against the run of play, Town took the lead.

A Mitch Marshall cross was beaten away by the 'keeper only as far as Morgan Homson-Smith who blasted it into the back of the net to break the deadlock.

Gate almost hit back immediately as Hughes poked it just past Kitchen from close range.

However Calen Gallgher-Allison had other ideas as he raced back to clear it off the goal-line to keep Longridge's lead intact.

The visitors had a couple of chances before the break as Birchall launched it over from a tight angle before Hughes poked it over the bar from close range, massively letting Town off.

At half time, ticket no.4431 won the final pound for the ground half time jackpot.

On behalf of everyone at Longridge Town, we thank you everyone who entered tonight and over the course of the season.

The second half got off to a scrappy start, almost setting the tone for the half.

Ing was booked early doors for leaving one in on Ryan McLean before Moses Yoak recieved a yellow for 'slowing the game down'.

The game took a massive twist just before the hour mark as Regan Crossley was sent off for taking down Jack Anderton as the last man.

The resulting free kick from 25 yards was lashed over the bar by Homson-Smith.

Town began to take charge of the game now as Malick Tanou slipped Homson-Smith in behind who saw his shot turned away well by Ramadhan at the near post.

Bailey then played a great ball into Van Wyk who raced one-on-one with Ramadhan but the 'keeper got down well to deny the forward, just out of reach of the ball.

Despite Town entering the driving seat, Gate won a chance at getting an equaliser as Marshall mistimed a challenge in the area on Ing.

The forward then stepped up and sent Kitchen the wrong way to level things up.

Almost immediately, Ashcroft replaced Seb Bailey and Malick Tanou with Luke Smith and Paul Turner.

The game then reached a boiling point as Gate's Chambers left one in on Luke Smith, the usual opposition target, and earned a yellow for it.

Town then hit a quick counter attack with 20 minutes remaining, only for Luke Smith to slide it wide at the near post.

With 15 minutes left, Moses Yoak hit a long range free kick just over the bar. The dip almost catching the 'keeper out.

Soon after, Birchall had the ball in net for Squires Gate, but the flag went up for an offside in the build-up.

During the break in play, there were two more changes as Leighton Hewitt and Josh Winder came on for Jack Anderton and Morgan Homson-Smith.

It was anguish for Matt Van Wyk soon after as the forward looked certain to score from close range but placed his shot over the bar.

However, the anguish was soon replaced by ecstasy as Paul Turner capitalised on another goalmouth scramble to put Town ahead again.

Almost identical to the opener, Town didn't care as they now led again, this time late on.

Captain Ben Fletcher rounded off a fantastic performance with a booking as the referee penalised him for a late challenge down the wing as the visitors looked to break.

Gate threw everything at Town in the dying as the goalkeeper made his way up into the penalty for two consecutive, Town managed to clear their lines following the second one.

Just as the Ridge cleared, the full time whistle blew, confirming a perfect end to the season for Ashey's men.

The lads received a fantastic send off from thr supporters as they departed to a standing ovation.

We at Longridge Town would like to thank each and everyone of you who back behind the boys this season.

It makes a massive difference and we couldn't have done it without you.

We will look to improve on what looks like a 19th placed finish in the Premier Division next season.
