Edwards edges it at the death
Longridge Town fell to a narrow defeat to National League side Morecambe in the Shrimps' first pre-season outing of 2025.
The game was scrappy, but there's no doubting that the visitors created more over the course of the game.
With former Longridge player Harvey Macadam breaking the deadlock, it took Town just over 20 minutes to respond, as Leighton Hewitt poked it home at the far post.
However, Gwion Edwards would win the game with one of the final kicks of the game, as he rifled into the far corner from left hand side of the box.
The game got underway dot on half 7, and the Shrimps soon began their offensive.
New goalkeeper Oliver Bellizia was called into action early, tipping wide a powerful effort from Ben Tollitt.
Tollitt was the danger man again moments later, flicking an effort towards the top corner but it drifted over the bar.
Town then took their turn to attack on the 20 minute mark, as the ball pinballed around the edge of the Morecambe box.
It fell to Jack Anderton who fired into the side netting with his left peg.
Following a quick drinks break, we got back underway.
The first action being Connor High's corner being headed at goal by Marshall, unfortunately for Lee Ashcroft's reds it was blocked.
Even worse, Marshall had to depart after receiving an accidental elbow in the battle for the ball.
Bleeding from his eye brow, he was replaced by Leighton Hewitt.
The only moment of note until half time was youngster Harry White nodding over from a Luke Hendrie cross.
At half time, ticket number 10153 won our annual pound for the ground jackpot of £92.
A big thank you to those who entered with the incredible support doing wonders for club matinence.
Following a double half time change for Town, seeing Daniel Cunningham and Ben Fletcher replace Jack Anderton and Charlie Martland, we got underway for the second half.
However, the second would start disastrously for Longridge, with the goal coming in almost immediately.
The ball was played over the top for Harvey Macadam to tap home.
White then tested Bellizia in the Town goal again, but the Longridge 'keeper was equal to his effort from the edge of the area.
Matt Van Wyk looked to get one on the board for Town but his 20 yard effort flew over the crossbar.
However Matty wasn't detered, rolling wide from a quick Ryan McLean throw in.
Morecambe then had their arms in the air moments later.
Macadam broke past the Town backline and rounded Bellizia, only to go to ground.
The referee promptly waved away the appeals.
Morecambe would then be frustrated by this decision even further as Longridge equalised.
McLean hung the ball up to the far post where Hewitt met it, and poked it into the far corner, past the helpless Burgoyne.
Town were delighted, unfortunately it didn't last long.
A Morecambe free kick in the 88th minute flew over the crossbar and landed in the training nets in the field adjacent to the playing one, bringing a loud cheer from the Morecambe faithful.
They were cheer even louder moments later, as youngster Oscar White broke forward and fired it over to Gwion Edwards.
The attacker twisted, turned and fired into the far corner from the left hand side.
Town kicked back off but almost immediately after the referee blew full time.
A disappointing result from a Longridge perspective but many positives to take.
For us, we go again at home to Bamber Bridge at 12pm on Saturday.
For our visitors, we want to thank them for their outstanding support and wish them the very best for the season.
Everyone at Longridge Town hopes for brighter days at Morecambe FC.
We hope you get your club back.
Thank you to all of the 403 who came down tonight.
