Town lost their first game of the season, as recently relegated Wythenshawe snatched all three points in the last minutes.
Darius Palma rifled into the bottom right corner just as we entered stoppage time, to break Longridge hearts but win a hard fought three points for the Ammies.
Matt Van Wyk was also denied from the penalty spot by Wythenshawe goalkeeper Forde in the first half.
It was an unchanged starting XI from the 8-1 FA Cup win in the midweek, with the only changes coming on the bench, as Tom Johnson was involved for the first time and Charlie Markland made a return to the squad.
The game started as it went on, scrappy.
Both sides constantly battling for possession, mainly in the middle of the park.
However, the first chance of the game fell to Longridge.
Anderton made a surging run down the left, backing up Atkinson.
The wing back screamed for it and got it, Atkinson laid him off, but Anderton's left footed effort fizzed wide of the far post.
The visitors' first chance was headed wide by Mason.
Town took it back up the other end to win a corner.
Connor High's corner caused difficulties for Wythenshawe.
It bounced around before Marshall volleyed it over the bar.
Mason then had another big chance, as he raced into a one-on-one with Town goalkeeper Oliver Bellizia.
However the Fleetwood Town loanee stood firm, and denied the attacker from close range.
Joel Ankers headed over from close range following a corner, but the referee promptly pointed for another corner.
Thankfully the Ridge defended well again, clearing their lines.
Trafford then made a great block at the back post, sliding in to prevent a tap in for Palma.
Luke Smith then took Town forward as he danced past two Wythenshawe defenders but his cross couldn't find a red shirt.
Town then had their prayers answered as Forde went to ground on Atkinson, who was chasing the loose ball, and brought the advancing striker down.
The referee pointed the spot.
However Forde read Van Wyk well, holding his rolled effort which headed for the right hand side of the goal.
Town his the post soon after though, as Van Wyk guided a cross from Atkinson onto the woodwork.
Atkinson then fired one straight into the arms of Forde just before half time.
At the break, ticket number 10905 won the half time jackpot of £85.
A massive thank you for the brilliant support on the club fund raiser.
Early in the second half, Town went on a lightning fast counter attack through Marshall as the full back surged forward.
He played a one-two with Van Wyk before racing through the middle of the pitch.
He eventually drove his effort towards the far corner but Forde tipped it wide again.
The resulting corner from Luke Smith almost went all the way in, with Forde tipping it over the bar.
Van Wyk was then booked for a late challenge in the middle of the field, joining his strike partner in the book.
Matty was then replaced soon after, departing for the debutant Tom Johnson.
The game continued the get scrappy as Ankers was booked for a very poor challenge on Anderton.
The substitute got involved, with Johnson driving down the right before flashing it across goal, but there was no red shirts there to meet it.
With 20 minutes left to play, the visitors began to turn the tide, seeing much more of the ball but not creating anything concrete.
Marshall was forced into a vital intervention, preventing Scott Leather from tapping in at the back post.
By this point, Jordan Dainty and Charlie Markland had joined the action.
Atkinson lobbed onto the roof of the net after winning back high up and spotting the 'keeper off the line.
However the three points would eventually go the Wythenshawe.
Some tricky feet from Palma earned the winger some space, which he used to place it into the far corner to set off the travelling fans.
The game then ended following four minutes of stoppage time.
A disappointing result but one to learn from.
We travel to Burscough this Tuesday, before returning home and hosting Emley AFC in the Preliminary round of the FA Cup.
A big thank you to the 184 who cheered the teams on today.
We go again.
