Match report: AFC Liverpool 2-0 Longridge

Connor Philipson18 Mar - 22:00

Little Reds run out victors

Town suffered another defeat in the road, as the Ridge finished the game with nine men.

Mitch Marshall was sent off for a last man challenge just after the hour mark.

Paul Turner then left the field in serious pain after making a challenge 15 minutes later.

The hosts had scored just over ten minutes before half time.

....

The no longer suspended Luke Smith made his return, after the end of his three game ban.

Jack Anderton kicked the game off at 7:45pm.

Town started the game very well.

Ethan Gough lobbed the ball over to Smith who cut back before firing into the arms of AFC goalkeeper Ben Barnes.

Anderton then beat his man before firing onto the post from 20 yards out.

Josh Ashe then did well to flick it over his man before hitting the deck under the challenge.

The referee waved away the penalty appeals.

The danger signs from the visitors then began to show, as Caleb Jones chested it down and volleyed just inches wide from the edge of the box.

Leighton Hewitt rolled an effort wide from distance as Town's high press allowed them to win the ball back.

However, for all the good signs, AFC drew first blood.

A lovely ball from the middle to the right found Jones who fired it across goal to Taylor who placed it into the Town net.

Things then got even worse for Town, as AFC skipper Adam Moorcroft connected with a cross and flicked it into the near post.

Joe Blake was then the first player in the book for a late challenge down the right.

Hewitt looked to get a response, his cross was met by Anderton but the forward's header was held by Barnes.

Crowe then had to push a fierce effort from Taylor past the post.

As the final action of the first half, Anderton was booked for a poor challenge on half-way.

Early into the second half, Lee Ashcroft introduced Lucas Wane and Paul Turner, for the departing Miller Megson and Josh Ashe.

On 63 minutes though, Marshall brought down the advancing Taylor on the edge of the box, with the forward already past him.

The referee was quick to brandish a red card, reducing Town to ten men.

Town went to their bench in response.

Luke Smith and Will Procter made way for Yuvi Dewan and Ben Fletcher.

Gough managed to fend off challenges from 3-4 AFC defenders before firing over the bar as Town looked for a way back into the game.

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, Turner went down in a lot of pain after having his hand stamped on whilst making a challenge.

He would leave the field, as Town finished the game with nine players.

The injury continues to grow.

The hosts had two more chances before full time to extend their lead, but they both came to nothing.

Jones lobbed wide of the target after going one-on-one with Crowe, as Deacon Smalley rifled onto the post from the right hand side of the penalty area.

Following three additional minutes, the full time whistle blew, confirming three goalless defeats in a row for Longridge.

It's tough going at the moment, but we will look to bounce back on Saturday away at FC St Helens.

The Tuesday then brings Padiham to Inglewhite Road.

We hope to see you join us and help the boys finish the season strongly.

A huge thank you to those who travelled tonight.

Your support is massively appreciated.
