Veteran midfielder Danny Wilkinson will fill a new role at Town this season as player Coach, as he recovers from a serious knee injury picked over on the Isle of Man earlier in the year.
Ashey explained, “ Wilksy is a sporting Longridge legend around these parts, he excels at whatever sport he chooses, but he’s not yet got his knee sorted and I want to keep him involved."
"I spoke to him about doing a bit of coaching and being around the place on a matchday and he was happy to oblige. We still don’t know the extent of his injury really, and he’s just broken his finger cricketing, so it could be a while before he’s able to fully train."
Everybody in the town knows Wilksy, he comes from a well known Longridge sporting family, his Dad played for the Club, and it’ll be great to still have him in the dugout.”
Wilksy, being the man of little words that his is, explained his response to Ashey to get involved on the coaching side: "Okay then boss"
