Six Town players feature in Counties Podcast NWCFL First Division North Squad of 2018/19.

Conor Linighan and Joe Melling were two of the seven defenders picked by the Counties Podcast hosts.

Linighan featured in 36 games last season, keeping seven clean sheets, whilst Longridge lad Joe Melling featured in 34 games, also keeping seven clean sheets, whilst also scoring twice.

The midfield included Player’s Player and Manager’s Player of the Year, Tom Ince.

He was selected having played 35 games, scoring 17 goals and being awarded Man of the Match by the opposition 12 times, with 10 of those times being in the last 15 games.

Fan’s Player of the Year and another local lad in Danny Wilkinson also made the midfield selection after starting every one of Town’s games last campaign whilst also scoring nine goals.

Golden Boot winner Richie Allen featured in the forwards after notching 36 goals in 33 games, including finding the back of the net in 11 successive outings.

During that run the former Salford man scored 13 goals in a four-game period in which he scored a hat-trick in each of those matches as well as four in the 8-1 win over Atherton LR in March.

Joining Allen amongst the League’s best forwards is crowd favourite Jay Hart.

The explosive forward hit 29 goals in his 34 league games, 30 goals in all competitions, as the Ridge took the NWCFL First Division North title.

Like Allen, Hart had his own blistering run of form hitting 14 of his goals in a six-game period.

During that run he hit five in one game against Daisy Hill in January becoming the only player in the NWCFL First Division North to score five goals in one game this season.

Manager Lee Ashcroft has shared his delight at six Town players making the Team of the Year saying:

“To have six players from our team into the League’s Team of the Year is a fantastic achievement.

“To get a quarter of the players chosen to come from our side shows the commitment and dedication put in by the whole squad to allow these players to show what they can do on a regular basis.

“This season has been a fantastic year for all of us at Longridge, scoring so many goals, though we are now already switching our focus to the upcoming season.

“The lads are back in pre-season now and having received recognition like this we’ll be aiming to continue our hard-work as we get ready for the step-up in the NWCFL Premier Division.”
