Town travel to Mossie Park to face Charnock Richard for the second time in a matter of days.

This time round though, the tie takes place in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, with the winner taking their place in the first round qualifying of the prestigious competition.

The clubs have a history of meetings going back to the West Lancashire League days, but Wednesday night was the first time Longridge were able to earn three points against the Chorley based side.

Town ran out 3-2 winners at the MRG in midweek, with man of the moment Paul Turner bagging another hat-trick to clinch the win against Charnock.

Turner grabbed the first goal of the evening as his effort was saved by Charnock keeper Ascroft before ricocheting back off Turner and into the back of the net.

Minutes later it was level after Dovey brought down Kay in the box, with Grimshaw sending the Town keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.

Eight minutes before the break Town were ahead again after Town went on the counter attack. A period of flowing football was finished by a diving header from Turner for his and Town’s second of the game after a fine delivery from Dan Birch.

Turner got his hat-trick and his eighth goal of the season on the hour mark after a long ball from Dovey found Birch who played the ball short to Turner for him to slot home to make it 3-1.

Four minutes later Charnock were able to pull another back after Grimshaw was put through by Haydock and fired into the roof of the net to make it 3-2.

The tie will be Charnock’s second appearance in the preliminary round, whilst this is Town’s debut FA Cup campaign. The winners will enter the first round qualifying for the first time ever.
