Town finally 'click' as Turner turns on the style.

Four games into this new season everything finally came together for Asheys 'new look' Town side as they scored five goals for the second consecutive home game to beat Prestwich Heys 5-1.

In front of a record League attendance of 211, 18 year old Paul Turner, starting in place of an under the weather Richie Allen, scored two first half goals to put Town in control at half time.

Whilst his first was a scrambled effort from close range, the second was a beautiful chipped finish after a sublime through ball from Tom Ince.

Prestwich hit back in the first minute of the second half when Jamie Baguley drove past Lee Dovey in the Town goal from 20 yards, and the visitors then had a spell of possession as they looked for the equalising goal.

Town held firm however with the returning Conor Linighan outstanding at the back alongside Captain George Melling.

Allen replaced the hard working Jay Hart with 25 minutes remaining and it took the experienced striker just 5 minutes to get on the scoresheet.

Alex Murphy, celebrating his 26th birthday, drove into the penalty area only to be brought down for a clear spot kick.

Richie stepped up and hammered in his fourth goal in as many games to put Town 3-1 up, and the Home crowd visibly relaxed.

Crowd favourite Joe Melling, in his 13th season at the Club, was introduced for his NWCFL debut having been out injured for a month and it was he who got the fourth, following in after Allen's effort had rebounded off bar and post.

It was a superb finish from the veteran wingback, firing in from 15 yards at a tight angle.

4-1 and everybody could enjoy the final 10 minutes as Town sprayed the ball around on a superb MRG pitch.

The fifth, and arguably the best goal, came from a Murphy free kick as Danny Wilkinson crashed in a header from 8 yards having timed his run perfectly.

5-1, and Ashey’s side had finally got the result that their performances so far deserved.

Heys were reduced to 10 men late on, having earlier seen two of their coaching staff dismisssed, as their frustrations at losing their unbeaten record came to the surface, but there could be no argument that the best team on the day won the game.

The win sees Longridge rise to 6th in the Hallmark Securities NWCFL, and the games come thick and fast as Wednesday night sees the visit of Bacup Borough to the MRG with a 7.45pm Kick Off.
