The emotional rollercoaster of following the lads on this new adventure continued on Monday night at the New Sirs Ground, Home of Daisy Hill FC.

Town started strongly on a poor surface, but should have been out of sight after 25 minutes having had two cleared off the line and hit the crossbar. Richie Allen’s second goal in two games, and Danny Wilkinson’s clean finish put Town 2-0 up when it could, and should have been five.

Alex Murphy pulled up injured after 27 minutes, and the game changed for the worse. Richie saw his penalty well saved by the Daisy keeper, which would have put Town 3-0 up, but nobody in the ground could have foreseen what followed.

A calamitous 7 minutes just before half time came out of the blue for the Town travelling support, who outnumbered their Daisy counterparts.

An own goal from Gary Basterfield that crept past Dovey from 20 yards, a ‘Keystone Cops’ penalty episode, and a great effort from 25 yards that flew into the top corner unbelievably put Town 3-2 down at the break, the home side having had one effort on target from open play.

Still having the majority of the possession, Longridge seemed unsettled as the second half got underway, shell shocked even and rightly so.

Daisy had fresh belief now and defended well but, just as all seemed lost, Jordan Tucker planted home a header from Jay Hart’s cross in the 94th minute to give Town a point.

Celebrations were muted as everyone connected with Town knew that the game, and the 3 points, should have been safe an hour earlier.

3-3, as the whistle blew for full time, a point better than none but the lads face two tough games now at AVRO on Saturday, and back at The MRG the following week when Prestwich Heys are the visitors.

On a positive note, Longridge remained unbeaten, have scored 8 goals in 2 games, and, albeit briefly, sit top of the Hallmark Securities NWCFL Division One North.

Football eh...? Up the Ridge!
