Town came back from 2 goals down to gain a famous victory in their first game in the Hallmark Security NWCFL Division One North.

On a glorious Ribble Valley day, Longridge welcomed AFC Liverpool to The MRG, a side relegated from the Premier Division last season.

A Town side packed with debutants started nervously but the first goal for AFC was probably a little against the run of play.

A defensive error allowed Callum Scorah the opportunity to live up to his name, as he beat Lee Dovey with a right footed shot from 15 yards. 0-1 to the Liverpudlians and the home crowd were silenced.

Things went from bad to worse for Ashey’s men as Schorah increased his sides lead just 10 minutes later, driving the ball low into the net at the near post. 0-2 after just 20 minutes, and Town were all over the place.

AFC then enjoyed a spell of pressure that could have seen them put the game out of sight, but Town got a vital goal right on half time. Tom Ince the scorer, after great work by Jay Hart allowed him to finish from close range.

1-2 at half time and the home supporters in a crowd of 153 has some hope to cling onto.

Ince and fullback Kenny Taylor both went off injured at the break, being replaced by Paul Turner and Gary Basterfield, and the youngster Turner was unlucky to see his 47th minute effort go just wide.

With Allen and Timbrell looking dangerous it was a different game, and captain George Melling got a deserved equaliser after 56 minutes with a volleyed finish.

It was to be the first of 3 goals in 6 minutes as Town turned the game on its head.

Jay Hart finished brilliantly from Turners excellent cross after 59 minutes to put Town ahead, before a flicked finish just 3 minutes later put the home side 4-2 up. The diminutive strikers backflip celebration summing up the majority of the crowds mood.

AFC were shell-shocked, as Longridge relaxed and began to play the ball around with Richie Allen popping up all over the pitch.

It was Richie himself who got his deserved goal with 12 minutes remaining, nicking the ball around the keeper before hammering into an empty net. 5-2, and surely now Towns 3 points were safe.

AFC pulled one back with 8 minutes left, a front post flick from an in swinging corner after aims confusion as to whether the referee has signalled for the kick to be taken, Dillon Fitzsimmons the scorer.

Town played keep ball for the final 10 minutes or so before the final whistle sparked great celebrations amongst players, management and supporters alike.

With the early games coming thick and fast in August, Town are back in action on Monday night visiting Daisy Hill with a 7.45 Kick Off scheduled.
