Troy Carsley scored the winner tapping in a Sam Nightingale free kick to send the Town fans into raptures and secure Town's place in the next round.

Town came from to 2-0 down to advance to the next round of the Lancs Amateur Shield. Troy Carsley scored the winner tapping in a Sam Nightingale free kick to send the Town fans into raptures and secure Town's place in the next round.

A very pleased Ashcroft commented after the match: ‘We were well on top and played some good stuff today. We created a hell of a lot of chances again this afternoon and it must be good for the fans to watch us in that vein. Our heads could’ve dropped when we were behind but we’re a different side to last year. I said to the lads up and down the leagues there will be teams coming from behind why can’t it be us and again we should’ve won more handsomely.’

When asked about who he would like to face Ashcroft replied: ‘I would like an easy draw please and then we’re in to quarter final/semi-final territory. It’s a competition we want to win!’

Town dominated the early proceedings entertaining the Town fans without possessing a killer edge. Adam Nuttall had a tame shot and then Ashcroft fired over. A lapse in concentration by the Town defence gave Tom Entwisle time and space to chip Town keeper Liam Bleeker after 13 minutes to give the away side the lead.

Town had chances to get back into the match, Connor Linigan coming close firing driven shots towards goal but the Slyne with Hest keeper was equal to them. Three minutes before half time Slyne added a second. Callum Moore finished after fine work by Mark Murphy. Town pulled one back a minute later when Adam Nuttall crossed and Jordan Bowen in fired home.

Town made one change at half time, Leon McGloughlin replacing Nuttall and they continued to perform how they finished the first half.
Last week’s six goal hero wasn’t having much luck in front of goal unable to finish chances created by Jordan Bowen and Ashcroft.

Conor Linighan equalised on 52 placing his shot out of the keeper's reach from the area. Two minutes later Troy Carsley scored the winner tapping in a Sam Nightingale free kick to the delight of the Town faithful and secure Town's place in the next round.

Town continued to press for another but a fine save by the Slyne keeper kept the score down; a Town free kick was cleared as far as Linighan who only had one thought on his mind. His shot deflected off Ashcroft but the keeper was equal to it.

Town are looking forward to finding out who they will face in the third round.
