Longridge were back in cup action on Saturday afternoon with a tie against Poulton Town in the Richardson cup.

Keefe and Gornall saw this as an opportunity to give some of the squad valuable match minutes with Bates, Garry, Wilkes and Dean all coming into the starting eleven.
The game kicked off and from the opening exchanges you could sense it was going to be battle with Poulton defending in numbers and looking to hit Longridge on the break. As the half progressed Longridge started to dominate possession as Poulton were forced to defend deeper and deeper. The home side were looking to get wide to Wilkinson and Wilkes at every opportunity but were struggling to test the Poulton Keeper. With the clock ticking towards halftime Longridge finally broke the deadlock, Wilkes long ball found Coar twenty yards from goal and he powered past his marker before firing home beyond the Poulton keeper, it was a superb goal by the big number nine and with little other action of note the referee blew up for half time soon after.
The second half began and Longridge were soon on the attack with Dean and English both going close, Poulton once again were looking to counter attack at every opportunity but the Longridge defence which was superbly marshalled by Ross were giving nothing away. With twenty minutes of the second half played Longridge doubled their lead when the referee spotted a push in the box from a corner. Substitute St.Vall coolly slotted home the penalty kick. Longridge were now in complete control and a third goal came soon after, Heywood played in St.Vall down the right and his first time cross was swept home by Dean from eight yards out. With the clock ticking towards fulltime Longridge managed to get a forth when a corner caused confusion in the Poulton box, Dean was the first to react to the loose ball hitting home from six yards out with the referee blowing for fulltime soon after.
In summary a hard fought victory for Longridge in a tough game, Keefe and Gornall will be pleased with the performance of the players who came into the starting line up.
