Following a 15 year career as a player in the football league with notable spells at Preston North End, West Brom, Wigan & Grimsby Ashcroft took his first steps into management at Kendal Town back in 2006.

After a six year spell as manager there and a brief reign at Northwich Victoria Ashey arrived at Longridge Town with the club in the West Lancashire League Premier Division back in 2014. The 2016/17 campaign saw Town win the division for the first time in the clubs history. Opting to remain in the league Ashcroft led a young side to 3rd position in 2017/18 before the club took the step into the North West Counties.

His first season at semi-professional level with the club saw 'The Ridge' win the North Division scoring 144 goals in the process. Since then with only one full season due to COVID Ashcroft has established Town as a NWCFL Premier Division club finishing 12th in the 2021/22 campaign.

Ashey is well known locally in non-league for his attractive playing style and ability to progress young players in the early parts of their careers. He has in recent years overseen the progression of many players who have left Longridge to operate higher up the non league pyramid as well as the likes of Harvey Macadam & George Thomason whom are both currently plying their trade in League One.
