The gaffer gave us his thoughts after a record 11-2 win at Holker Old Boys on Saturday.

Competition for places is healthy and the lads that have come in have all done really well
- Lee Ashcroft

After recent suspensions and injuries, Ashey has credited the squad, and the boys that have made the step up in the last few weeks:

“Competition for places is healthy and the lads that have come in have all done really well.

“It's given me a nice problem to be honest.''

The gaffer will be pleased to welcome midfield stalwart Michael Morrison back into the side for Friday’s game at the MRG against AFC Blackpool, with strikers Richie Allen and Tom Ince available for the away trip to Chadderton the following weekend.:

“It's a massive game for us on Friday night back at The MRG to face AFC Blackpool who are a really good side, and I expect them to be challenging at the top of the Division as well.

"It's a long season ahead, but we've started well, and we've got some good players to come back into the squad.

The result saw a score line of 11-2 recorded for the first time in League history, and the gaffer spoke of the importance of keeping up the standards that have been set so far:

“I've known Guy, the Holker boss, for a long time and we speak regularly so I expected a real battle here today.

“That clearly wasn't to be, and it was important that we kept our focus and didn’t let our standards drop.

"The red card in the opening minutes was a real game changer, but indisputable to be fair.

"We had a poor spell at 2-0 up, when we were very casual, but I felt we did as good a job as possible after that.

"We hit the woodwork a couple of times as well, and I was disappointed not to leave with a clean sheet, but I can’t really complain, can I?!''

It’s a night under the lights at the MRG on Friday night, with a 7.45pm kick off scheduled, with tickets priced at £5 adults, £4 concessions, and under 16s free.
