Town exited the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy in the Second Round after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Evo-Stik West Side Colne.

We started the game brightly, it was an open game which is how I want us to play, we had our chances and they had their chances.

A Paul Turner goal put Longridge one up inside ten minutes, but three goals from Colne in the first half gave the East Lancashire side the win.

Though he saw his team go out of their fourth cup competition of the season, manager Lee Ashcroft said he was proud of his side’s performance.

“I’m proud of the team, they were against a very good Colne side who have shown they respect us, fair play to them.

“The lads have done alright, a lot of them have come a long way and are improving all the time and long may that continue.

“We started the game brightly, it was an open game which is how I want us to play, we had our chances and they had their chances.

“The one frustration we have is the injuries. Jay Hart limped off with a tight hamstring, Alex Murphy came off injured and Paul Turner was hit with a late tackle.

“Hopefully they’ll look after themselves and they’re not too bad and hopefully ok to be involved in a massive game at home against AFC Darwen on Saturday.”

Ashey was also quick to praise Colne after their winning performance which saw them through to the Third Round.

“They’re a very good side who will probably finish in the top four or five of the division two league above us.

“Their first two goals were our mistake, which isn’t really like us but we hold our hands up. We definitely haven’t let our club down tonight, it was our first ever game in this competition and I’m proud of them all.

“It was a good atmosphere infront of another great crowd of 180 on a cold Wednesday night and I would like to thank the fans for coming through the gate and supporting us.”

The games continue to come thick and fast for Town, with AFC Darwen visiting the MRG on Saturday afternoon, where the club will be presented with the Macron Club of the Month, as well as Richie Allen being awarded with the Macron Player of the Month award for October.
